About Coach Luis

What is your favorite volleyball memory?
Winning the Central American championship in memory of Guillermo Perez and winning the Home School National Championship in Springfield, MO.

Tell me about your family.
I’ve been married for 23 years; 4 kids all boys.

What advice would you give to volleyball players?
If you have discipline and passion, your dreams will come true.

Who was/is your role model and why? 
God. No explanation necessary.

What is your favorite food?
Cold pizza with coffee

What college did you attend? Did you play a collegiate sport? Universidad de El Salvador and Universidad Albert Einstein; yes, played volleyball in college.

What is something you’re good at outside of volleyball?
House flipping, singing

What is your favorite book?
How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie and 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey

What is your favorite song?
Time to Say Goodbye by Andrea Bocelli

If you could meet 3 famous people for dinner, who would they be and why?
Marv Dunphy (volleyball coach) I took 3 courses from him – one in Mexico, one in Puerto Rico, and one in Canada, and he knows a LOT about volleyball. Mahatma Gandhi because of his philosophy and vision about peace and non-conflict. And the other one is a basketball guy, Kobe Bryant, because I’m curious about how he found success and he speaks Spanish. I also want to meet Pope Francis because he knows everything about happiness.

What is your biggest accomplishment?
Never quitting: no matter how many times I get knocked down, I always get back up. And I moved to America, learned English, and found success because of my never quit attitude.

Do you have a college degree? What was your field of study?
Undergrad in Industrial Engineering, Undergrad in Physical Education, and Masters Degree in Distribucion en Planta, which is a study of efficiency and flow in the workplace

What would your friends say are your 2 biggest strengths and 2 biggest weaknesses, and why?
Weakness: I forget everything
Strengths: Hard worker and disciplined

Why did you choose to coach at TAV Houston?
It’s a good club with a family atmosphere and it’s a good program.

Do you have any pets? Tell us about them.
Yes, Zeus. He is a golden retriever and is smart and a very good dog.
